A woodland resident, the tawny owl can be heard after dusk with the iconic 'hoooo' call of the male. They are rarely seen and are successful nocturnal hunters. Pellets containing small bone fragments indicate nearby owls.

Diet: Small mammals, birds

Origin: Native

UK conservation status: Amber

IUCN conservation status: Least Concern
