Glossy black, with a white body and wingtips and a long tail, the magpie is set cleanly apart from other corvids. It is well known for stealing shiny objects to decorate its nest, in order to attract a mate.

Diet: Carrion, insects, scraps, hatchlings, eggs

Origin: Native

UK conservation status: Green

IUCN conservation status: Least Concern
