This species can be seen in Silwood's woodland. It is distinguished by its black and white back and head, white breast and a bright red rump. Males have a red patch on the back of the head. Being the size of a blackbird, these are larger than the lesser spotted woodpecker (which is roughly the size of a sparrow)

Origin: Native

UK conservation status: Green

IUCN conservation status: Least Concern
